Portreeve Sunday: 29th November

Join us for one of Ashburton’s most cherished civic traditions as we officially welcome the newly appointed Portreeve and Master Bailiff. Portreeve Sunday marks the beginning of their year in office and celebrates the town’s unique heritage, with the office of Portreeve dating back many centuries.

The ceremony begins at the historic St Lawrence Chapel in the heart of Ashburton, before processing through the town to St Andrew’s Church for a special service commencing at 10.30am. Residents and visitors are warmly invited to line the route or attend the service as the community comes together to celebrate this distinctive and enduring part of Ashburton’s history.

Everyone is welcome to join us for this special occasion and to share in a tradition that continues to connect present-day Ashburton with its remarkable past.
