Remembrance Week 2026

A week of commemorative events and services honouring those who have served and sacrificed in the Armed Forces.

Scheduled: 8 November 2026 - 09:45 to 00:00

Remembrance Week provides an opportunity for the community to come together to honour and remember those who have served and sacrificed in times of conflict.

On Remembrance Sunday, 8 November 2026, the town’s annual parade will assemble at 9.45am, proceeding to the War Memorial for the Act of Remembrance and wreath laying, followed by a service at St Andrew’s Church at 10.45am. Residents, veterans, cadets, local organisations and visitors are warmly invited to take part in this important civic occasion.

The 9th November is the Laying of the Crosses. The ceremony is organised by the Ashburton branch of the Royal British Legion in conjunction with the Portreeve and Mayor. Following a short service in the churchyard of St Andrew’s Church, volunteers place small wooden remembrance crosses on the graves of service personnel buried there. The act honours local men and women who served and ensures that their individual sacrifices are remembered.

On Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November, Ashburton will observe the national two-minute silence at 11.00am, with a short ceremony taking place outside Ashburton Town Hall. The silence marks the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, commemorating the end of the First World War and remembering all those who have given their lives in service.

Remembrance Week remains an important part of the town’s civic calendar, providing a time for reflection, gratitude and remembrance.
